God is My Insurance Policy

Since living in Peru I have often seen God work in mysterious ways. He works in ways that go outside of the box of our personal biblical commentary. It’s His nature. It’s a promise. Yet, it is still a surprise.

Today I went out with Mark to do some interviews and prepare a video for the Christmas outreach the community is doing. We wanted to get the heartbeat of those that suggested the outreach in the first place. So we went to my homegirl’s house.

This woman is a constant source of inspiration for me.

Amongst other serious issues that her family is having, and the poverty they are currently experiencing she told us that this morning her son woke up, and he was really sick. His side and his back hurt so bad that he could barely move. She joked and alluded to the fact that he was in so much pain he looked almost as white as us. Peruvian humor. I love it.

So she told her son to try and come to her, and begin to take a step of faith. It was time that they prayed for the situation. THIS IS COMING FROM A WOMAN THAT JUST RECENTLY BECAME A CHRISTIAN. So he got up and went to her. Then she put her hand on his side where it hurt and she prayed for him. He said it was still hurting. So she said, “ok, let’s go to the doctor. If it hurts this bad, we need to go.”

“Mom, no. We can’t afford it. We don’t have the money to do it. I will stay home.”

“No baby, we are going don’t worry about it. Let’s go.”

So instead of taking the normal bus they got a taxi to get to the state clinic because it would be much faster. As they sat in the taxi she said that she prayed.

“Lord, you know what we have. You know the trust that we have in you. You always provide. You always take care of us. Lord, if I really had the money to pay for this visit I would. But, you know I don’t have it. Please Lord hear me. Please take care of this.”

Around the end of her prayer they arrived at the state clinic which was packed with people. She looked at her son so he would get out. I guess he looked back in shock because he said, “Mom, it doesn’t hurt anymore. It doesn’t hurt at all.”

“You sure?”

They got out. The taxi drove off.

“Yeah, it doesn’t hurt at all. Not one bit.” He was still in shock.

“Well, let’s just go see about an appointment just in case.”

Around when she said that, a doctor that had helped her previously came out. They had a very good relationship so she explained what happened to her son. The Doctor said to her, “we have no appointments at all, but if you wait maybe we can get you in sometime in the afternoon.”

So they sat down and waited.

Then her son blurbed out, after waiting and looking around, “Mom, I feel silly. I don’t hurt at all. We don’t need to be here. There are other people here that really need the doctor.”

So they left.

“What did I tell you son? You ask the Lord, and He takes care of it.”

If you knew this woman, your smile would beam from ear to ear like our smiles.

When all you have is God, and you rest on the love and promises of Jesus, faith begins to pour out. God was their insurance policy today, and now her son is up walking around without pain and is going about his business like nothing even happened.

Box breaker.

What about you?  Have you seen God recently break a box in your life?  I love testimonies!!!
